Trail conditions – June 2026
Welcome to the 2026 season at the Auberge de Salanfe!
Here is some useful information to help you prepare for your hike:
🟢 Access from the Vallon de Van is clear, except for about a 5 minute walk in the snow below the dam (no particular difficulty).
🟢 The Col du Jorat is accessible from the Salanfe side. The descent towards Mex is still a bit snowy.
🟡 The trail to Susanfe Pass is becoming increasingly visible and is starting to being used by hikers. On the Salanfe side, there is still about 1 hour of uphill walking on snow and around 45 minutes downhill. Please make sure you are properly equipped, including light crampons (microspikes) and trekking poles.
🔴 The Col Emaney, and Col Golette are still snow-covered and still difficult to pass.
As an alternative, we recommend a magnificent 2-day loop currently accessible 🥾:
Vernayaz – Gorges du Dailley – Salanfe on the way out, and Salanfe – Col de la Matze – Salvan – Gorges du Trient – Vernayaz on the way back.

This hike can be shortened by starting from Salvan, accessible by train from Martigny (Mont-Blanc Express).
And what about when you arrive?
🐐 The ibex are already here with their most magnificent horns.
🐾 the marmots have emerged from their slumber and are whistling louder than ever.
